Hand pump water for granted the comfortable and convenient lifestyle that we live in. We often forget how fortunate we are to simply turn a tap and have an unlimited supply of hand pump water . And we often forget that not everyone has been blessed with this simple privilege.

We can solve this problem together by simply building a water well that not only individuals will benefit from but entire communities as well. Building a well will not only provide convenient access to hand pump water for communities, but it also prevents severe and fatal diseases that are caused by a lack of hygiene.


The lack of access to hand pump water is a serious issue in Indonesia. This is a major concern because of the lack of clean water reduces the level of hygiene in the communities and raises the chances of people contracting skin diseases or other waterborne diseases.

Drinking polluted hand pump water can make you extremely sick. But do you know the many different ways polluted water can make you ill? Drinking contaminated water can cause the following sicknesses:

• Vomiting
• Skin rashes
• Cancer (cancers like leukaemia can develop after drinking dirty water for a long periods of time)
• Reproductive problems (reproductive problems, infertility)
• Developmental problems (learning disabilities can occur from drinking dirty water for prolonged periods of time)
• Gastrointestinal Problems
• Diarrhoea
• Nausea
• Intestinal or Stomach Cramping
• Intestinal or Stomach Aches and Pains
• Dehydration
• Death

SACH was able to provide 74,110 beneficiaries with clean hand pump water through the completion of deep water wells. The water wells were built in the vicinity of schools, mosques, boarding schools and residential areas. This will ensure easy access to clean hand pump water for children, men and women and will ensure a healthier more productive lifestyle.
